British System

The British educational system is globally acknowledged for promoting high academic standards through a hands-on teaching and learning approach. It is recognized as a valid university entrance qualification by all Egyptian universities, both public and private, as well as by the majority of institutions worldwide.

Parents and guardians often face uncertainty when choosing the most suitable educational system for their child. Even when a decision is made regarding the system itself, families frequently remain concerned about which school will deliver the highest quality of education.

At Tanta Modern School, our IGCSE programme gives students a globally recognised qualification while helping them grow into independent, critical thinkers. It provides a solid academic base and prepares them with the skills and confidence to succeed in A Levels and beyond.

Academic Approach

We believe that education should inspire curiosity, passion, and a lifelong love of learning. At TMS, students and teachers share the learning journey in an environment that is both supportive and challenging. Our specialist teachers bring their subjects to life with enthusiasm and dedication, motivating students to explore ideas deeply and achieve their best.

Curriculum at a Glance

Our British curriculum from Year 9 to Year 12 is designed to open doors to both national and international university pathways. In Year 9, students study a broad foundation across core subjects, allowing them to discover their strengths and interests. As they move forward, they begin to specialise in IGCSE and A Level subjects that align with their ambitions, gaining the knowledge, skills, and independence needed for higher education and future success.

Textbooks serve as the vessels that carry targeted knowledge to students. The dream of the future, through the eyes of adolescents, has been explored by a number of different researchers. While there are many variances in their methodologies, locations and samples, they uncover a considerable number of recurring themes. A close examination of these research studies indicate that, for the most part, children’s views are structured around elements of social and personal identity, material development, career, and educational advancement. These themes are taken into consideration by the academic deans, here at TMS-British, when it comes to the selection of student resources.

Textbooks are both the medium and the message. As such, we at TMS British, we ensure that all the textbooks we use are officially approved and endorsed by Cambridge, providing our students with trusted and high-quality learning resources.

The Primary Checkpoint stage (Year 6) and Lower Secondary Checkpoint stage (Year 8) curricula include three core subjects: English, Mathematics, and Science. All textbooks used for these subjects are officially recommended by Cambridge University. In addition to the Cambridge curriculum, students are required to study the Ministry of Education subjects—Arabic Language, Religion, and Social Studies—and must pass the corresponding national exams.

Throughout the academic year, students are expected to attend classes regularly. At the end of Years 6 and 8, students sit for the Cambridge Checkpoint assessments in the three core subjects. These assessments are provided by Cambridge International Examinations and serve as a benchmark for academic progress.

Upon completion of the Checkpoint exams in Years 6 and 8, students receive a Statement of Achievement issued by the school, along with a detailed score analysis for each subject, as provided by Cambridge University.

Year 9

Year 9 marks the start of High School at TMS. Alongside the Ministry of Education’s obligatory subjects (Arabic, Religion, and Social Studies), students study five core subjects from the Cambridge Curriculum at Core level: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

This programme equips students with essential skills and prepares them for the challenges of IGCSE and A Level study. To progress to Year 10, students must successfully pass their final exams in these subjects.

Year 10

The Year 10 curriculum builds on the strong base of Year 9 and supports students as they develop greater independence. In addition to the Ministry of Education’s obligatory subjects (Arabic, Religion, Civics, Geography, and History), students study English Language, Mathematics (Edexcel), Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. To meet individual needs, students may, under certain conditions, replace one course with another. Any change requires written agreement between parents and the High School Principal and depends on subject availability and scheduling.

Years 11 & 12

In Years 11 and 12, students begin to specialise and shape their academic pathways. They pursue AS and A Level courses alongside a selection of additional O Level subjects, choosing combinations that reflect their interests and future goals.

This flexible structure allows students to deepen their expertise, prepare for university admissions both in Egypt and abroad, and build the confidence and independence needed to thrive beyond school.

Achieving IGCSE and A Levels

The number of IGCSE and A Level subjects required for qualification depends on the entry requirements of each university, whether in Egypt or abroad.

At TMS, we provide personalised guidance to help students choose the right subject combinations — balancing university requirements with their strengths, ambitions, and career aspirations. Through tailored support and academic counselling, we ensure that every student is ready to take their next step with confidence.
